Service Profitability
What each service type earns per visit against what it costs to perform: labor on site and on the road, the vehicle and overhead.
Read Service Profitability Report
Choose a date range. The report counts finished work orders that include a service type. By Service Type shows each service’s average revenue, cost and profit per visit, its Margin, and Profit / Labor Hr, the profit for every hour a tech spent on site or driving.
Break-Even Price is what the service would need to charge to cover its cost, given the trip charge and labor billed with it. Price for your target margin is what it would need to charge to earn that margin.
Cost Breakdown per Visit splits each service’s revenue and cost line by line, with how much of its time was timed on site. Parts are listed under it but left out of the margin, since most parts have no cost on file.
When a visit includes more than one service, its time, travel and trip charge are split by each service’s estimated time.
Visits with no on-site time use the service’s median time once a few visits are timed, else its estimate. Technicians tapping Arrived and Complete in the app makes the numbers more accurate.
Set Cost Assumptions
- 1Set each technician’s Cost per hour under Labor Cost on their employee page. If someone has none, the report says so and leaves their time out.
- 2Under Cost Assumptions, enter your Fuel price, Miles per gallon, Other vehicle cost per mile, Average driving speed, Overhead per labor hour and Target margin. Use Default labor cost to cover anyone without their own.
- 3Click Save Assumptions. The report recalculates. Leave a field blank to use the default shown in it.
Only people who manage users or the team can change the assumptions.
Check Trip Charges
Trip Charges vs. Travel Cost compares the average trip charge billed with what the drive cost: drive time at the tech’s labor cost plus the vehicle cost per mile. Visits are grouped by distance from your Dispatch Address, so you can see where the trip charge doesn’t cover the drive.
Travel rebuilds each technician’s day, from your dispatch address to each stop in order and back, and splits the miles evenly between that day’s stops.
